What a beautiful story! We just picked olives on a friend's ranch outside Petaluma. While much is the same, there a few differences. We didn't have plastic rakes, we used our hands. White buckets worn across the chest with straps over the shoulders. Having read "Extra Virginity" by Tom Mueller, we are hyper vigilant about the chain of custody! It would be fun to trade some oil!
I'd love to do a taste testing comparison! The idea of chain of custody is hilarious, but I certainly get it. I always like to see our oil through from the olives to the container. Nice to hear from you!
What a heart-warming vignette about olive harvest as a metaphor for the enduring beauty, richness, and annual cycles of nature. In "Field of Dreams", baseball assumes that role. Pliny the Elder wins. We and the olive trees are going to survive. Well, at least the olive trees.

So poignant. And yes, Pliny the Elder always wins...
